Outreach
At Holy Trinity, we care about our neighbors.
Monthly collection
On Sundays, we bring in canned goods, paper towels, toiletries and other necessities, leaving them in the baskets in our narthex (church lobby). Then, on the last Sunday of the month, we bring our collection to the Family Network of Wyoming food pantry.
Volunteering at The Pantry
For the past three years, our congregation has volunteered at The Pantry at 4307 Kalamazoo Drive SE. They’re open to distribute fresh and packaged food on Thursday nights to qualified residents of southern Kent County. The Pantry also offers educational classes on how to effectively and safely prepare food, as well as to grow your own. More information is available on their website: thepantry.gr/
We volunteer on one, sometimes two, Thursday evenings each month. We gather at 5:30 p.m. and begin serving the neighbors at 6 p.m. The Pantry closes at 7:45 p.m. and we are usually finished by 8 p.m.
Our team may help with:
- Stocking shelves
- Unloading pallets
- Re-packaging bulk shipments of fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs and personal care items
- Registering the neighbors
- Guiding and shopping with the neighbors
- Checkout / bagging up their groceries.
Easter offering to bring Jacob’s family to Grand Rapids
In 2019, we dedicated our Easter offering towards purchasing plane tickets to bring Jacob Chol’s family here from Nairobi. Read more about this special project!
Thanksgiving Basket Project
Every year, we gather the names of 25 nearby families who are struggling to make ends meet. Everyone takes a list of things we want to include in our “baskets,” and we ask the families if they prefer a ham or a turkey as their main course.
Before Thanksgiving, we fill our sanctuary with cardboard boxes full of holiday foods and “everyday” foods like peanut butter, tuna, mac and cheese, toiletries and other items, enough to ensure that 25 families will have a bountiful Thanksgiving. We deliver these boxes to a Wyoming food pantry where folks in need can shop for the foods that their families prefer for the holidays.
